Will Paignton still be keeping their fantastic group of Hamadryas Baboons, or will they be getting the rumoured Geladas instead?

Why do the Baboons need a new enclosure? I think they'd be better off renovating their current enclosure myself, as it seems to suit the current group perfectly.

We already know that the tigers are related to each other in some sense, probably cousins.

It was never her "new male". The plan was to first send the bengal sisters away and then send Kepala away and recieve a new pair.

Kirana is one half of that pair, and apparently the male will arrive early next year.

Hello.
The new baboon enclosure is going to have a waterfall with caves so as you can imagine this is going to take some planning ..The logistics such as where do you put the group in the mean time.as the new home is for them.
They have already raised one and a half million pounds for the project .

It was going to be put up behind the giraffe/elephant house where the mountain goats are but people living near there thought the baboons might get out.Shock horror what fun.

As the baboons love water they will have a lovely time.

They will be keeping the baboons as it is their home the logistics of re-housing the group would be mind blowing

I think it would be amazing to see them behind Lemur wood near the bird feeding station.but there is always a downside to things.There are Bats nesting in the caves there.Also it belongs to the park trust.

If you are in the know??? Please enlighten us to why is Chester bringing in a new male for her??

If I remember correctly, there was one article somewhere stating that they were too closer related so a new male was being sought for her. This has been discussed here there and everywhere so it may take me a while to find it again.

One of Paignton Zoo’s rare Sumatran tigers is heading off to start a new life in the north of England.
Two and a half year old Kirana is moving to Chester Zoo to start a new breeding group.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park Director of Operations and Curator of Mammals Neil Bemment said: “We are very pleased that Kirana, as one of the highest ranking females in the Sumatran tiger EEP, has gone to such a good zoo to further the breeding of her species. With luck Tenang and Banda will have their second litter in 2009.”

Kirana and her brother Topan were born at Paignton Zoo on 8th May 2006 to mother Banda and father Tenang. They were the first tiger cubs to be born at Paignton Zoo since 1988. Topan died of a heart condition in December 2006.

Chester Zoo currently has one Sumatran tiger, male Kepala, who’s three. However, as he is related to Kirana, a different male will arrive at Chester to form a new breeding pair with her.

Both zoos are members of the European Endangered species Programme (EEP) for Sumatran tigers, which means they are part of the global effort to save the species from extinction. Captive and wild populations are protected and managed in an attempt to prevent this subspecies following the Bali and Javan tigers: these subspecies became extinct in the 1940s and 1980s respectively.

Banda and Tenang, who have been separated since the cubs were born, are now back together.
Here is also a link to Paignton Zoos News article on it;

I do admit we also had this report;

The new male will arrive next year and until then Kepala and the female will share the enclosure on rotation.

I wouldn't describe having rare Horseshoe bats living in the zoo as a 'downside'!
