It was never her "new male". The plan was to first send the bengal sisters away and then send Kepala away and recieve a new pair.

Kirana is one half of that pair, and apparently the male will arrive early next year.

Two and a half year old Kirana is moving to Chester Zoo to start a new breeding group.

Kirana and her brother Topan were born at Paignton Zoo on 8th May 2006 to mother Banda and father Tenang. They were the first tiger cubs to be born at Paignton Zoo since 1988. Topan died of a heart condition in December 2006.

Chester Zoo currently has one Sumatran tiger, male Kepala, who’s three. However, as he is related to Kirana, a different male will arrive at Chester to form a new breeding pair with her.

Both zoos are members of the European Endangered species Programme (EEP) for Sumatran tigers, which means they are part of the global effort to save the species from extinction. Captive and wild populations are protected and managed in an attempt to prevent this subspecies following the Bali and Javan tigers: these subspecies became extinct in the 1940s and 1980s respectively.

Banda and Tenang, who have been separated since the cubs were born, are now back together.

We were told by a keeper that Khali & Rani (Bengal Tigers) left the zoo about 3 weeks ago to go back to West Midlands Safari Park. Hopefully they won't try to spray paint them white! The new female Sumatran has arrived but is still in quarantine. Unfortunatly she can't breed with Kepala because he has so many siblings his blood line is "over-represented". The new male will arrive next year and until then Kepala and the female will share the enclosure on rotation.

I think it would be amazing to see them behind Lemur wood near the bird feeding station.but there is always a downside to things.There are Bats nesting in the caves there.Also it belongs to the park trust.
