Didn't know they were getting a new zebra yet. Is it a female?

Its interesting what a change of location can do. The original pair of Zebras lived at Cricket St Thomas for many years- apparently with no breeding, but quite happily. Then they are moved up to Yorkshire, breed a foal but then the female gets killed by the male(?)

Is the new one a female, or another spare male? Ideally they need two or three mares for a stallion, but its not that easy to find available(Chapman's)females at the drop of a hat.

The female was injured during mating, don't think it was necessarily aggression.

Ah, that would explain things better- In that case he should be safe with one female again.

The new Zebra is a young male from Marwell.

I thought it might be another male...;) They are probably more able to build a small group if they take just spare males.

There are actually 2 new young males. Not sure whether two came together. There are now 4 males.

It was reported one left Marwell for Yorkshire, so maybe No 2 is from elsewhere?

Its often very difficult when you are faced with the actual animals in the Zoo, and nobody around to ask the details about them. Often easier to extrapolate the facts from on here.:)

Never heard anything about leopards, would have thought the tigers were enough to be going on with.

well they've submitted an application to doncaster council for an amur lepard enclosure with 10 metre high climding frame. Located just infront of the tigers. It says they're introducing 3 leopards to the park.
