I think i speak on behalf of everyone here when i say we respect the confidence you have with the keepers, its just a bit of fun having a guess.

Of course I understand that, I wasn't getting at you.

Saiga? Nearly none left in Europe
Hirola
Jentink's duiker
Baiji (after all cetaceans are now in with artiodactyla so could be regarded as ungulates)

Can't be mountain tapir, I don't think, as these are/ or very soon will be in Europe. I did think about giant forest hogs, but thought it unlikely- would love to be proved wrong on that!

This is true, but neither are really that green are they? I think it's just a combination of yellow and black hairs look a kind of olive green overall. DeBrazza's have a similar olive tinge.

Are you referring to the rumours about Cologne or is there something more concrete afoot?

I didn't mean this seriously; even if Chester wanted to get dolphins there would be a huge capital outlay to house them adequately. As there are no cetaceans in captivity in the UK any more and they are the number one target for the anti-zoo brigade, I doubt if anyone would seriously consider bringing them in.

I was referring to Cologne, though I thought it was a little more than rumours now...

Chester Zoo - Tejas Update!

An update of Teja's, with a recent photo of him. Looks like he's going to get an impressive mane just like his dad!

Quote from myself 11 August "The Writhed (white-headed) hornbill hen has left the nest, no sign of any young unfortunately."

It was the youngster and the male I saw. The female has been removed for medical treatment.

I went today and I few things I noted from visit was, there was now crate in the Tsavo 2 and all 3 rhino's seemed to still be there. Does anyone know what was happening there?

Asha was out and about with Asoka, and the window in the Lion den was still boarded up with the notice she was about to give birth soon?? Didn't spend long there so didn't get to ask about this.

Visited yesterday, my first visit since the Cheetahs and Crocodiles went on display. The Cheetahs are stunning and came right up to the glass.

The Lechwe have now moved to the Pere David Deer paddock whilst worked was taking place in their old paddock aswell as on the site of the African Aviary.
Their are now 3 African Crested Porcupines whilst all the Childrens Ffarm animals seem to have gone.
Saw all 3 Tigers, therefore Bengals still there.
Saw 2 of the Rhinos in Tsavo I out in the paddock, first time i've seen them outside in years.
There is a Great Indian Hornbill housed in one of the aviaries behind Islands In Danger and next to the shop.
