hi, i am visiting Paultons Park today, i know they dont have alot of animals but if anyone wants any questions answered or some photos, please ask!

quick review:
i didnt have alot and i state "alot" of time to see all the birds but the collection is well exhibited and has some wonderful species, ive gathered a quick species list for anyone interested: Birds emu rhea subperb starling white-faced tree duck white stork several types of hornbills laughin thrushes love birds crowned pigeon pinkbacked pelicans chilean flamingos blue and yellow macaws scarlet macaws kookabura (spelling?) ural owl toco toucan storks trumpeter hornbills ground hornbills humbolts penguins helmeted guineafowl Von der Decken's Hornbills Others Meerkats Bennets Wallabies Aldabra Giant Tortoise and thats it.... Hey cat-man could you do a list of the hornbill species on show please, and tigerlemur guy thank you for your list too, any further thoughts on the collection, how it was housed, were most species in pairs or groups, and most important what YOU thought of the collection, thanks in advance.

im terrible at bird names...there were trumpeter hornbills, ground hornbills and prehaps some others...
the collection is small but very good, with very natural themed enclosures the vultures even have cactuses |

Some years ago Paulton's had a large collection of Parrots, including a number of species of Macaws, Amazons, Cockatoos and similar. Have these all gone from their collection now?

and pertinax, yes the parrots has drastically declined, they only had the ones listed as far as i saw.... |

its not galapagos tortoises cat-man, its Aldabra Giant Tortoise,
the collection is pretty small so i dont think a big review is really needed, i went yesterday for the rides mainly not the animals! The japenese garden is the best area for bird-lovers, it has inside and outside enclosure with various plants and waterfeatures in the "small" tropcial house. as pertinax said, alot of the birds seem to have left the collection, not sure why penguin pool is decent, i have seen better meerkat family had two babies with them and they have a very nice themed enclosure with indoors and outdoors housing african aviary - one the biggest aviarys in the park, divided into two sections: one for ducks and one for cranes, guineafowl and hornbills etc |

Many years ago they had a very extensive wildfowl collection but had big problems with predation so gave up on them .

Many years ago they also had species like Guanacos, Red Deer and maybe Rhea as well as a much larger parrot/bird collection than nowadays.

They still have rhea now, kept in a paddock with the wallabies. But yeah, they used to keep llamas, guanacos, red deer, fallow deer, pygmy goats and a pets corner containing pigs, chickens, chipmunks etc., until the F&M outbreak in 2001 after which they stopped keeping them.
