Nakuru is the daughter of Rukwa, so she is related to Kingo(halfsister). I think she was in the triangular paddock nearest the Mansion, together with her mother Rukwa, their oldest rhino.

Interesting to see (on the video) the inside of one of their rhino barns- haven't had that opportunity before...

Is there any news on the rhino/baboon mixed exhibit I've heard of?

Cat man, that link is from 2005 and involves Chester and Whipsnade although Qunito moved onto Port Lympne recently

The black rhinos featured on 'Roar' today , probably filmed last autumn . Kingo was running with Vuyu and Jaga and had mated both . Nick Turk , the rhino head keeper , thought they were both pregnant though not confirmed at that time .

It's apparently been going on for ages, and I went about 3 weeks ago and the rhino fences had insulators for electric wire, but it wasn't completed and the babboons were in their cage.

That is exactly how it was last Autumn, so there has been no work done on this at all in the intervening months.

Are you confident on this?

Kingo has been sent temp to PL for breeding purposes while the mother and calf at Paignton mature. In the full 1,5-2 year term Kingo was to remain at PL. Perhaps you have mistaken him for Baringo II - who was shipped out to Dvur not too unrecently -.

The rhino sent was referred to as Ringo , aged 16 years , so I assume it was Baringo II .

I wonder if they will receive a Dvur bull in return? Apart from Quinto, many of their rhinos are becoming closely related and another completely unrelated bull would be useful for them.

This might occur over time, but in the immediate future no plans exist for this to happen. For now, PL is happy with both Quinto and Kingo.

I do however agree that at some point the EEP - both continental en UK populations - need infusion of new genes. Effectively, that might come from the SSP ....
