It will give Edinburgh a better sex ratio(2.3) There's discussion on the American thread about whether Drills have any future in US zoos- there are less there than in Europe and very few are breeding. I think Columbus' male ws handraised and is consequently a nonbreeder so this transfer will be to Edinburgh's advantage.

Good, good. I find Mandrills and Drills so fantstic to watch. I have only seen drills on Tv, so am happy even if it is existing zoo getting more as hopefully one day I will get round to visiting one of this places.

Mandrills & drills are great. Like so many species of primate, the bigger the group, the more interesting they are.

Fact for the day- Did you know that Port Lympne recorded the first UK birth of a Drill for almost 40 years? There had been none at all in UK since the last one died at Drusillas Zoo in Sussex some time in the 1970's.

I believe that the African plains exhibit may be unsuitable or part of it may be unsuitable for giraffe as it is considered too steep and therefore risky for giraffe, whereas rhino be it white or black are not in the masterplan as they are concentrating on Indian rhino for the moment.

i think adding rhino and giraafe will make it pretty much like most other african exhibits, i think they should stick to what they've got or perhaps add a few more antelope species

Drill
Old 16-10-2008

To be honest, I don't like the drill enclosure as it is really small for them. Edinburgh Zoo said they are in there for temporarily but it has been nearly two years. Now 0.2 Drill will be added, it is worse for them in limited space, which it doesn't look good for the zoo!

gentle giant, from what i've gathered on this site, the drills will be moving to the former chimp/gorilla enclosure very soon.

Glad to hear that, so fingers crossed. They are a enormous creature.
