Alright, I'm sorry. I was only laying out ways that would make more educationaly trusting reserves, and sorry if it caused any confusion.

the thing is it is happening a LOT on this UK forum and it is consistently the same few people doing it. If someone wants to start a thread on something imaginary that's up to them (although personally I think it should go somewhere other than the country forums; maybe in the Zoo Cafe section), but their fantasies shouldn't be tagged onto a thread that is about real life events. Sometimes its obvious what is meant as fantasy but not always and there have been several instances where other members have become confused as to what is real and what is imaginary (or guesswork, as the case may be).
Sorry if this sounds harsh.

erm...so why do we have a vision for chester and london zoo threads then?

this site is for discussion of what really is happening and also what we would like to happen

dalek maybe make it more clear next time!

Because in those threads the word "personal" is tagged onto the title (I also stress that it is not official loads of times in the first post of that thread), therefore alerting everyone who reads it that it is not official.

It's a different situation that someone just tagging on ideas onto a thread about a real situation

Marwell Dalek made it a lot more clear than what some others tend to do in other threads.

As far as the mixings go, it doesnt really bother me that much. But perhaps it would be better if the park could move a few species about though.

I donīt understand the sudden outburst of harsh and sarcastic criticism towards Marwell Dalek - I have so far thought of this web site as a friendly place where everbody is entitled to their opininon. I thought his piece was interesting, well reasoned and perfectly OK in every way. Certainly not off-topic. He/she answered the question asked and put in some personal recommendations and thoughts.
What was so wrong about that?

the criticism as a whole wasn't directed at Marwell Dalek in particular, and I agree in this thread it wasn't nearly as bad as in some others, but it is happening in several threads and we all know which members are doing it. It brings the whole level of the forums down. The point is simply that many people rely on this site for FACTUAL information on zoos around the world and if it isn't clear what the truth is then the value of the site is greatly undermined

Hmm......... I am still pretty new to the site and was simply surprised by the harsh tone. Hadnīt seen that before. And being new I havenīt really formed any particular opionions about specific other forumsters, except a few ones that I really appreciate and have already started to respect a lot.

Oh well.... never mind.

I don't have any problem at all with Marwell Dalek himself, he is obviously very knowledgeable about Marwell Zoo in particular and I welcome him (or her?) as a member. It is just this one issue I have problems with.

I agree with some forumsters that the unnatural mixing of species from different continents does not attribute Longleat Safari Park a clearly defined image nor is it conducive to showing it to be anything more than an average safari park collection.

No, I do not think the comments made by MarwellDalek how Longleat might be considerably improved were out of place as some fellow forumsters see it. At the same time, I see that we require factual information on zoo developments, particularly as the forum is getting larger and must continue to rely on its correspondents to provide a factual information source to all that use it.

So please, value the comments made by MarwellDalek - who is obviously an asset to all of us where his hometown zoo Marwell in Winchester is concerned - for what they are and discuss the issue in hand in more detail. I certainly think that the link between collection planning and curatorial species management and unnatural mixing of species exists at Longleat.

Back on topic: the future ... at Longleat Safari Park. What may we expect to happen over the next few years (or should we open a new thread on this elsewhere)?

well there is no "masterplan" for longleat....we can only guess for the time being. i think that pets corner and the butterfly house could be much improved. while the safari park could do with some new area to give it a publicity boost...

Well the butterfly house will be included as part of AA next year, so I imagine that'll bring renovations.

does that mean the old butterfly house will close and be relocated because the new area for animal adventure is nowhere near the butterfly house.

Actually, it's right next to it. It will take up the now-demolished Mystical Garden, former Postman Pat Village, the current Butterfly Garden and presumebly the former Postman Pat Exhibition in the shop building, which are all in one area.
