Verminculated fishing owl
Old 26-07-2007

Sadly, Chester zoo's verminculated fishing owl died on Friday, She was a very very old bird, and has probably lived longer than other member of her kind. She was called Bruno, as they thought she was a boy, until she laid an Egg.

Really, this may not seem a great loss, but when some keepers have been looking after a bird, that has been at Chester zoo at least two decades (Maybe three), then you can understand, why the zoo was so sad when she passed away.

In a slightly related topic, there are about five new owl aviaries near the otter enclosure, on the site of the old ones.

Those new aviaries contain Tawny Frogmouths, Spectacled Owls and a Barn Owl, with one spare aviary. They replaced the old block which was built in 1975.
