Woburn elephants.
Old 21-04-2008

Its announced on their website that Woburn's ' elephant communication' displays with the public are to be temporarily suspended as they are keen to give the 1.2 Asian elephants more time to focus on breeding now they have moved into their new quarters.. There is no mention of additional elephants being obtained at present though.

For the moment, no Elephant encounter, maybe until may or june. Don't want to stress them too much.

No more elephants for the moment. later probably.

Would it be unfair to say this small herd "seems" to be going no where in breeding terms?, is there any sign of breeding with them to date or working with another zoo with breeding animals?

Doesn't seem like it so far- and this is the first time I've ever heard 'breeding' mentioned in conjunction with Woburn , but at least its a start. And they must be planning to add more elephants sooner or later as they've built this new large house...

We went at the beginning of September and there was certainly alot of attempts at breeding going on in the paddock!

One poor female was being chased all around the paddock

The elephants may still be off show, but the park are hoping for births in 2010, all sounds very positive.

Despite building a much larger house for presumably a much bigger group, there has been no news about any new elephants coming to Woburn. They seem still to have just their original trio.

If Chester don't want Birma, why don't they send her here for starters?
