How is anyone supposed to know that so soon?
It seems very unlikely to me, though. First, EEVH is usually killing calves between age 2 and 4, not newborns. Second, two stillborn babys are a tragdedy, but far, far too few to be a statistically significant indicator that something else then bad luck is going on. Please don`t start speculating about a genetic problem after just 2 dead calves. The thought alone is ridiculous.

I would say its merely a remarkable fluke that these two calves produced by AI from the same bull were stillborn with a day or two of each other. That's all. I don't think Woburn published the sex of their calf.

I was just stunned when I heard the Woburn calf had been stillborn too. I guess I was trying to add it up. But like it was said earlier first time mother elephants do experience still births, miscarriages, etc. So, this is just simply a tragic coincidence. Hopefully they will be able to try again soon. They have three breeding females correct?

i agree with the eehv1 theory as both elephants died a day apart and i read on wildpro that eehv can produce stillborns

Why does the fact that it happened within 2 days connect both incidents? It wasn`t at the same zoo and the females have never met each other.

@gorgeousingray: The bull from Woburn, Raja, doesn`t mate the females. So nothing will happen until they start again with AI. Woburn should exchange the bull, but so far weren`t willing to give him up although it is pretty clear that he will never breed with their younger females since they grew up together. Raja will probably show different behavoir with other females, but it seems he won`t get a chance...

Does anyone know how many wolves there are currently mixed with the black bears, on my visit yesterday I only saw one fairly elderly looking one asleep by the fence adjoinining the tigers (i know that doesn't mean there aren't more) . There were at least 6 Iberian wolves in the enclosure adjacent to the main exhibit though.

Believe the Iberian wolves are an adult pair (From PL/Howletts and Hungary) and six cubs from two separate litters.

The Canadian timber Wolves are a mother and two daughters, they are mixed with the American black bears.

The Iberians are shortly to relocate to Blackpool once their new exhibit opens - maybe after that they will open up the fenced off area which would open the enclosure up a bit more.
I saw 3 of the Timber wolves when I visited in March - all looked fine but soggy as it hoyed it down just as the park opened and they were stashing food!

Do you know whether Blackpool will have the whole group, or just some of them?

The plans seemed to have changed, I was told it was the brother-sister pairing that was born in 2010 and now on several other threads it seems to be either a pair plus two pups or just two. Unsure of the current situation will try to find out on Saturday/Sunday.
