I think they have a few doucs but the US is phasing out the species. Does anyone know where these guys are at the WAP?
Last I heard SD still had 2 aging female doucs off-exhibit As far as I can tell, if there are any silvered leaf monkeys at the WAP, then they are off-show.
Here is something I found of the set of exhibits. [ame="http://flickr.com/photos/cooljerk/232400632/"]Douc Langurs - San Diego Zoo on Flickr - Photo Sharing![/ame]
I'm sorry but i really do not understand this, can somebody explain please, why would the US no longer hold this gorgeous species?, and why would San Diego comply?, is it that they did not breed? wow, this is sad news, was really looking foward to seeing this species in my trip.
It's not like someone said, "hey we're gonna stop keeping doucs, so get rid of yours..." They didn't flourish at the zoo and no more were imported. They bred, but didn't survive well. There very prone to stomach problems due to their specialized diet and they are very succeptable to getting stressed as well. I believe they still keep 2 females off exhibit at the zoo, but I'm operating off of old information there so it may no longer be so.
