Hi Zoogoer2000 - ZooBeat was created nearly 5 years ago ... I had an interest in zoos and there weren't any communities out there dedicated to discussing them, so started a new one.

I had no idea it would evolve the way it has - the level of knowledge and enthusiasm from our members has far surpassed anything I imagined!

Here's a link to the very first thread - October 19, 2003: http://www.zoobeat.com/32/welcome-1/

The gallery didn't even exist back then!

Another more recent thread: http://www.zoobeat.com/4/history-zoobeat-4642/

I think we all owe Sim a BIG vote of thanks for setting up this site!

I've learnt so much from it over the year or so since I discovered it. I've had to change many of my preconceived ideas (but not all.)
At the risk of repeating myself, I thought I was the only zoo "nut" around until I found all you lot!

Thanks, Sim.

It wasn't until the site started to take off that I realised I am nowhere near as "nutty" about zoos as some other people out there

I'm always amazed by the depth of knowledge and enthusiasm from the people on this site!

Thanks for the kind words Ara.

This site is all kinds of wonderful.

You should be proud of what you have created, Sim.

Let's not go overboard now

At the end of the day - all I have done is provided the infrastructure that allows people to come together. It may well have been a case of me throwing a party where nobody came (that has happened with other sites I created). I cannot claim the credit for making ZooBeat great, it is you the users who have achieved that, I was merely the catalyst with the right idea and the right skills who allowed it to happen.

... but I appreciate the sentiment anyway
