Lots of great shots from your visit to Singapoore, Ash! Keep them coming! Will you be writing a review of the zoo? I hope so!

In fact, what I would be especially interested in would be your views on the jaguar exhibit (exhibits?). Are there more than one? I seem to recall a discussion here at ZooChat in which it (they?) was/were critized, but when I look at the documentation at ZooLex the jaguar exhibit shown there looks pretty good even by Western standards.

Not as big as I would want it of course, but then you know me by now....

      Thanks :D
I remember seeing one, it was pretty small and made worse by the fact that 80% of the exhibit was water, giving the jaguar a tiny amount of land. I thought this about most of the cat cages, they were all very small.
Overall though the zoo was good, some old, some new. Lot's of annoying things though, such as the polar bear (why?!) and a lone meerkat in a concrete exhibit :(

Oh.... all the more reason then for you to write as detailed a review as possible. Please do that, Ash! I would be so much interested and I think that many other forumsters would be too!

Remember, this zoo is always portraited as the very best zoo in Asia! We know about the innumerable hell-holes but this is supposed to be the shiny example of the opposite.

Do you have pictures of these cat cages? The polar bear enclosure?

And again: that good jaguar exhibit that I referred to - featured at ZooLex - you did not see it? It must exist but I suppose but it was un-typical, then?

I just saw a tiny jaguar exhibit, I never saw the one you mentioned. I do have a pic of the polar bear enclosure but there's already one in the gallery that is basically exactly the same as mine. Didn't get any of the cat cages though, can't think why actually.
I will do a review then, I'll write it tomorrow when I've got more time as I'm off work.

@Dan: I don't think the Singapore Zoo's jaguar enclosure was ever featured in Zoolex. There's only one and as pointed out, its old and small, definitely not worth mentioning on Zoolex.

@Ash: The lone meerkat was actually a lucky survivor - its mates got preyed on by a wild reticulated python. The meerkat enclosure has two levels, the top level is concrete, the lower level is all sand.

Zooish and Ash, you are absoluley right. I have been confusing Singapore with Hong-Kong all the time.... my silly mistake .

This is the exhibit I have been referring to, but it is in Hong-kong, not Singapore...

I didn't think I'd seen it on zoolex. And that's really unfortunate about the meerkat :(

I went there coming back from my adventure trip to New Zealand last year. I agree with you I'd critisise all that you've mentioned. The Polar bear in Singapore is a bit of a joke.:p

Having said that though I did think most of their primate enclosures were very good and I did enjoy the elephant show. I think the zoo can much more easily with some animals give them natualistic enclosures than the 1's in the west can. I just love being in a place with such exotic plants.
