This must have been not long before they moved across the Zoo.
Mamfe wasn't huge but his weight fluctuated a lot- this is during one of his 'fatter' periods. I have other photos and postcards of him where he looks much 'trimmer' than this, both before and after. Mamfe was handraised at Jersey and he never seemed to be really dominant over the females at Twycross though he did breed(intermittently). He would suck his thumb even as a Silverback- a leftover from his upbringing. |
