In these pictures You can see the whole exhibit, from the entrance to different viewing points, and some details of the exhibit (information and educational panels, miniatur research station) ...

I cannot understand why Chester have only one Spectacled Bear in this top class exhibit(and presumably awaiting another female) while South Lakes are allowed to keep 5 of them in a muddy bare field. Why don't the EEP ask for some to be transferred to these far preferable surroundings?

I agree with you Pertinax, although I thought South lakes enclosure was a decent size and had some good climbing poles etc, Chester's would offer much more enrichment. Also, why are they keeping five individuals of a solitary species together?!

By the way, good lot of pictures :)

Great set of photos of a spacious, naturalistic exhibit. I have often admired Chester's spectacled bear/coati habitat, and if it wasn't for Zurich then it would probably be the best spectacled bear enclosure on the planet. It blows the barren mess that is South Lakes out of the water.

The South lakes exhibit is pretty big, potentially I think it could be very good but it's just pretty barren and muddy. Also, I think the house only has 2, maybe 3 dens for the 5 bears, I could be wrong though.

Have they had any luck finding a replacement female?
