I'd be curious to know how much of Chester Zoo has remained the same since 1984, as like most major zoos there has been a lot of development there during the past quarter century.

Thanks ZebraDuiker. Very interesting seeing what changed and whats remained the same.

@Snow Leopard. Roughly id say the Rhinos, Elephants, Monkey House, Lions, Pelicans & Cranes, Sealions, Kangaroos, Penguins, Tigers, Aquarium, Tropical Realm, Owls, Giraffes, Chimpanzees, Flamingoes and Lemurs are all still located at the same place today. The majority of the enclosures have however been re-done in some way or other, in particular the Orangutans, Rhinos and Elephants.

I had no idea Zebras were once housed in the Cattle House. Or that Gorillas were kept until until the 80's. As far as the Hoofstock go, would anyone be able to tell me, what exactly was kept in some of the paddocks. Much appreciated :)

From memory eland were in the paddock immediately below the one marked waterfowl and cranes and ostrich next door (where they still are). Beisa oryx were in the paddock currently holding the dik-dik. Blackbuck were in the enclosure above the wallabies. Przewalski's Horse still in the same paddock. Axis Deer in the middle paddock of the three marked waterfowl and cranes. Formosan Sika deer in between Red Lechwe and Zebra and Deer. Alpaca with the marmots, Nilgai in one of the paddocks below the rhino house and Llama across the path from the wallabies and gazelles. Ankole Cattle in what is now Asian Plains. Chinese Water Deer with the guanacos.

The cattle house had Congo Buffalo and Gaur on the west side and Grevy's zebra on the east.

The Red Lechwe were the Kafue Swamps Lechwe, and the zebras in the cattle house were Grevy's. Grant's were in the zebra enclosure.

The deer enclosures shown east of the monkey house (where Asian Plains is now) were never built.

I do have a list from 1984 whch would confirm the locations, but I can't find at the moment.

If there any errors someone may be able to correct them.
