no s***!!!

They spent many thousands of dollars to add this "enrichment log" to the exhibit--I believe it has built-in automated feeders etc. Too bad they didn't bother to hire someone capable of making it look like a log!

What does work well with the Zoo Atlanta gorilla habitats is that the rear section of the enclosures are expertly moated, thus creating the effect that the lush forest in the background is actually part of the ape exhibit.

Thats dumb that the gorillas don't have access to the lush forest. From what I am hearing I really am not impressed with this exhibits. The only good thing about it is that the gorillas have lots of family members to interact with.

These yards were lush forests when they were opened 20 years ago.

Doubt it was anything like Congo Gorilla Forest.

Congo Gorilla Forest is still better. Okapikpr, you are always the first one to defend a southern zoo.

Why? because I don't think the south is home to as many great zoos as the rest of the country?

Congo is unquestionably the best, but Atlanta's is a great facility. Congo was built with greater attention to detail, so moats, walls, hotwires, etc are much less evident, and the artificial trees and rocks much more realistically rendered. From a visitor's perspective, the drama, up close viewing, sightlines and interpretation at Congo are far more advanced. But for sheer size, complexity and flexibility (and as a result breeding and socialization) Atlanta's is still one of the very best anywhere

You sometimes seem to fail to see the nature of animals and the effect they have on the land, the constraints that come with managing a zoo...and you can be rather closed-minded. Sometimes, its worth to do a little bit of research before forming opinions and making statements. And there is much more to life than just appearances

@okapikpr: I have never been told I have a close-mind. All I am saying is that anytime I say the best exhibit for an animal is at San Diego or Bronx, you counter it with some southern zoo.
