....in the most terrible and poor "exhibit" for big cats in a zoo of that size and famous call...poor leopards-I feel so Sorry for them.Fortunately, the german animal protection law forbid to keep big cats in tiny indoor aquariums like that one-it is time, the Usa should have the same laws to avoid such unfortunate animal welfare in the 21.Century-there were much better big cat exhibts even at the beginning of the 20.Century.
The good news is is that these two are females and won't breed. I wonder what the future will hold...
Just to be fair, I remember seeing smaller indoor cages for leopards at Berlin Tierpark, which is in Germany. I also recall reading that this exhibit in Jungle World was built originally for another animal species.
No question-the care of big cats at Tierpark Berlin ins't that wuld I would term a good oneBut fortunately, the former director is now part of the past, so there is a good hope for the big cats for a positive change in the near futureHopefully, the"big cat collection"will be rduced to give tthe rest more space and better living conditions. But, nevertheless the fact, the indoor and outdoor cages at the Tierpark are small, the welfare is a bit than better than at the Bronx-not only because the big cats at the Tierpark do have outdoor cages and exhibits. After I know now around 100 zoos and Aquariums in the Usa,so I can say the husbandry and welfare of big ctas is in europe much better than in the Usa,also after I've seen here some picture sof new exhibits at San Diego or Los Angeles. Of course I don't judge an exhibit just be seeing pictures, but they give me a good impression about these "new"exhibits. The leopard aqaurium in Jungle World was used for Clouded leopards, as far as I know. It would be nice exhibit for big snakes or Tree monitors.
The part that I don't understand is why don't they extend it back? There is a ton of space between this and the exhibit behind it.
There is no need to keep big cats only indoors in such poor conditions either. Its the same with the tapirs opposite the leopard aquarium. But I try to answer your question-the goal of Jungle World is to make sure people CAN and WILL see the animals. So thats the reason for the small size of the leopard tank and the missing hiding places in it-defenitely an absolute No Go in big cat welfare-the Bronx-Zoo should know that....the same with the Javan Langurs-no german zoo would keep them the same way the Bronx-Zoo do...
