Brutal skin condition, but then again polar bears are one of the least successful mammals to be kept in captivity.

Compared to Indri, Olive Colobus, Pygmy sperm whale, most insectivorous microchiroptera species, Potamogalinae or Colugos (to name just a few), the results of the captive husbandry of polar bears look far more promising than assumed...
