Lied Jungle

For all of its magnificent views of nature, and immersive feel as a massive, 1.5 acre rainforest, the Lied Jungle does have a number of major flaws. The land area given to their malayan tapirs is an example of what people criticize about the indoor jungle, and this photo shows perhaps 85% of the land area for the tapirs. It is obviously far too small for such a large mammal, although the pool is huge.

This is totally unacceptable and puts whatever the other merits of Lied Jungle into shame.

I'm hoping this isn't the place that everyone said was better than the RSCC because it shows a tapir in context...?

I think that Omaha's malayan tapir exhibit is disgraceful, and it's a major flaw in the Lied Jungle. The pool is great, but the land area is simply sad.

Not me! San Diego and the Bronx do much better by their Malayan tapirs....

Supposedly one of the best exhibits in the country yet this tapir exhibit is average at the very best. In Congo Gorilla Forest are the animals in below-par enclosures? Nope. All are in some of the best enclosures for their species.

Yes, the exhibit is too small, however, as a whole the Lied Jungle is great, and I think those who haven't experienced it should withold comments that suggest this isn't a exhibit. Unless someone goes into it with a very negative outlook or would let something like the tapir problem destroy the whole exhibit for them, I don't see how one wouldn't have a great time in there.

whats with the ramp in the exhibit? can the animals actually access the vegetated part of the exhibit at all?
looks like the tapir equivelent of a desert island to me

I'm pretty sure I've said this to you before, but this just doesn't make sense as a comparison. CGF has what, 3 species in it? For it to be an elite exhibit, I'd hope all species are in great enclosures.

There's a huge difference between that and an indoor rain forest which holds tons of species.
There are no comments to display.
