Birdsage and felis silvestris like this.

Cathedral of the Planet of the Apes

Zoo Designer: "An exhibit where apes are celebrated as they never have been before in a zoo? There's got to be an answer."

Dr. Zaius: "Don't look for it, Zoo Designer. You may not like what you find."

      30 million!

30 million dollar monstrosity. Imagine if they built a 10 million exhibit and sent the other 20 million to Asia for in situ conservation efforts. Won't happen at Indy - the egos are far too big

what is this supposed to be? An ape house?
    • DavidBrown
Allegedly it is an orangutan exhibit.

I am trying to avoid the phrase "more money than sense", but it is proving hard. Chili's comment is hard to refute - for the cost of that exhibit, an awful lot could have been done for wild Orangs.

No doubt. I think that this building is going to go down in zoo history as one of the great embarrassments of all time. It makes London's elephant house look like a work of art.

I've changed the title of the photo so people know what it is.

Just image what this building will look like in 20-30 years...

That is exactly what I've been telling people for a long time now. The official name of this monstrosity is "International Orangutan Center" but it is almost eerie to view the resemblance between the Indy project and the great ape house that was built (and now sits empty) at the Kansas City Zoo.

Is this an actual picture of the I.O.C.? It looks like a rendering...
