Oklahoma City Zoo - Empty Elephant Paddock
Old 01-09-2008

August 2008. This is empty as the zoo has loaned their elephants to the nearby Tulsa Zoo, and by 2013 there should be a massive Asian complex around this site.

I just posted a new thread talking about the new asian exhibits the zoo will have. On the website it talks about opening in 2011.

You're right about the 2011 time slot, as the book "America's Best Zoo's" has it two years later. I remember seeing 2011 on the signs at the zoo.

Now that I look at it, this exhibit doesn't look that bad compared to others across the country.

It's utterly shocking to see so much green grass in an average paddock! Normally the grass is only in the excellent large elephant habitats that scarcely dot the country.

I think there was lots of grass because the elephants were gone by the time snowleopard was at the zoo.

Mario is right, as there weren't any elephants when I was there in August. They'd already gone to Tulsa...
