      The species lives om Pandanus palms their entire life. It should be one of these.

      Yes, but spotting either of the geckos in their moderately sized vivarium was not easy. It would be very difficult in a vivarium with a Pandanus of any size at all, which would not make for a good visitor experience or for good husbandry.

      But it's not about the visitors it's about the animals

      That's why I said 'good husbandry'. But actually the visitors matter too: most zoos keep a proportion of their animals off-show, for a variety of good reasons; if animals are put on-show, they should be visible to the visitors at least some of the time, after all it's the visitors who pay for the care of all the animals so they deserve the chance to see as many animals as feasible.
