But they were a different species, not that it makes a lot of difference. I find tenrecs in general very hard to see.

At least these are bigger, makes it slightly easier to spot! And the 2 species at BNC are extremely elusive especially considering the size of the enclosure.
And I just knew you'd point out the different species!

These look like Tail-less Tenrecs to me which is a species that Birmingham Nature Centre doesn't have!

Right genus, wrong species... Either way they're damn tricky to spot!
