      Tibetan Eared Pheasant...

I always thought this was Crossotilon crossoptilon harmani, a race of the White Eared Pheasant, although as 'blue' as the Blue Eared (C. auritum). Have the taxonomists 'created' a fourth species of Eared Pheasant? (The third of course being Brown Eared (C. mantchuricum).

The Tibetan Eared Pheasant is already for a longer time considered a seperate species by a number of scientists.

I think there are size differences along with the ear differences, much smaller than C.auritum. I personally agree with this change, even if it does seem the phasanidae is now far more speciose than when I was learning about them!

yes they have been split for quite a while now. Originally of course this was a subspecies of the white eared but they are very different in colour and lack the prominent "ears". I recently read somewhere (I think) that Jersey Zoo's white eared pheasants back in the 60s/70s were actually this species and not the regular white eared pheasants.

I know what you mean about those original Jersey "White-eared", I can`t think of their name, but I don`t think they were this species pictured.

I agree with Nanook, all the picture I've seen from Jersey were "real" White eared pheasants and also the young they send later to other collections were all real white.

I finally remembered to check back on this. The place I thought I had read it was here Jersey Zoo: Birds - The Bartlett Society but I was just remembering the common name used (Tibetan white eared pheasant). The subspecies given is actually C. c. drouyni.
