Using drones for wildlife conservation
Old 20-06-2012

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are used in a wide variety of applications, the most well-known being the Predator drones used to kill terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Some of the more benign applications are for search and rescue, surveillance, and transport.

Does anyone know of any wildlife/conservation projects that use UAVs?

Oh yeah good point. I remember that. And I guess that satellites are used all the time to track animals with collars.

I think someone from the BBC is a member of this forum, because just 4 hours ago they posted an article on UAVs being used to protect animals in Nepal. Have a read - it's technology at work.

I wonder who that is...

Anyway, I probably posted it on some other thread earlier, but drones are used against badger-baiting in Northern Ireland. Pretty cool.

BBC News - USPCA drones join fight against badger cruelty

(Too bad they can only take pictures and not shoot anything at the baiters... at least some "rubber bullets" would be great )
