Hippo enclosure

Enclosure held three hippos, 1.1.1. The space shown is about half the total area. The animals could pass through the gate at the far end of the enclosure (which also gave access to inside quarters) to get to the other half which had a second pool, deeper but empty.

This is an abominable enclosure for such massive mammals. Brutal.

The zoo should give the lake/pool on the other side of this exhibit to the hippos.

This is indeed the greatest irony, as I commented in my review. The hippos get to stare all day at a huge expanse of water they cannot use - it must drive them mad.

Just returned from a trip through India and Nepal. I've also visited the Kathmandu Zoo and will post a review soon. When we where there, the other pool was open and used by the hippo's.

Considering everything, i didn't think it was brutal at all, I'd rate the hippo enclosures i've seen at Amsterdam, Prague, Cologne and Barcelona lower then this one. It wasn't good, but it also wasn't terribly bad neither. I'll post some pictures as well...
