The calf was in this small holding pool at the back of the exhibit.

This is the medical pool. It has a false bottom that can be hydrolically lifted out of the water, usually with a whale on it, to act as a platform for medical checks etc. A fantastic facility designed by seaworld.

Thanks for the info. Certainly seemed to my inexpert eyes to be quite a good setup they had.
