Leopard Seal - Atlantis Marine Park, Yanchep WA 1987
Old 23-01-2008

Leopard Seal at (now long closed) Atlantic Marine Park in the Sun City development, Yanchep near Perth.

This was a rescued animal. Anyone know what happened to it?? Would guess it died here but don't know for sure.

This was the establishment that tried to re-introduce seven performing dolphins (some wild caught, some captive born) with limited success.

Does highly litd success mean it worked or didn't?

Wow, those kids on the wall must look like snacks for a leopard seal

Most of the animals went to other theme parks like seaworld on the gold coast, but the seven dolphins that they tryed to release ended up at A.Q.W.A. or underwater world, where they lived quite happily often visited by other dolphins in the marina, until about 2000 when they were all poisoned deliberately by an unknown person. this affected the trainers and all the staff there immensely.

Not an animal many people would want to get too close to...

The keepers at Taronga use free contact with their Leopard Seals and used to swim with the now deceased Leopard Seal Brooke

with the skewed perspective it looks just like those kids on the far right are actually sitting right above the pool...just at leopard seal launch height

(of course there's a "walkway" between the pool edge and the wall, but I can just imagine the seal licking his lips)
