What a bizarre display! What were your thoughts on the Queensland Museum? How many live animal exhibits are there?
It's slightly less bizarre when you read the sign. It says "We will never know whether this unfortunate animal captured the echidna or chanced upon its caracass but the end result is the same. Unable to swallow or disgorge its spiny meal, it choked. Together in the arid terrain, predator and prey have become mummified." It also notes that "this curious exhibit was acquired and displayed by the Queensland Museum prior to 1912". I quite liked the Queensland Museum, there were lots of very interesting things displayed despite the fact that one fairly large hall was closed off for redevelopment when I was there. There were a few live animal exhibits, these were a small 'Pond Creatures' tank, a display of a newly discovered spider species (Dolomedes briangreenei), and a row of enclosures (which I have uploaded a picture of) containing Green Pythons, Leaf-tailed Geckos, Giant Burrowing Cockroaches, and stick insects with separate enclosures for adults and nymphs.
