Very nice, both the picture and the species. How commonly did you encounter them? I missed them when I was in Botswana & Namibia, though we met people with frustrating stories as "they just walked past the main road", when you have just taken that same road... Hopefully Ruaha NP in Tanzania will be more successful...

We saw them twice over the eight days. The first group were (literally) lying in our paths in the road as we neared the end of the drive from the airport at Maun to the first camp. This second pack were on the penultimate day, and were just regrouping after being scattered by some infighting lions. Both groups spent at least part of the time we saw them actually in the road! Good luck for Ruaha - they're wonderful to watch.

Northern Botswana is, I believe, considered to be one of the better places to see them - but as with anything you still need luck!

I'm hoping to go to Botswana in the future. Hopefully I see some of these.
