The oldest Brown bear in captivity has died. Female Varvara died at an age of 35 years at the Leningrad Zoo
'The oldest bear' is a lie of zoo's PR department!!! There are many older brown bears in captivity over the world, some reaching 50. Our zoo's brown bears are 34 & 33 years old and will definitely break Varvara's 'record'!
1st birth of African lions (1.2, zoomix mutts as usual) since 1984. In late 80's-early 90's the zoo kept and bred Asian lions.
A Steller's sea-eagle which was hatched at Leningrad 2012 has been send to Zoo Abakan - Republic Khakassia.
