Hi, does anyone have an email address for someone at Rostov Zoo? I've tried [email protected] but am getting failed delivery of emails to that address. Thanks, Abbie (Zoological Society of London)
Try this one: [email protected] It's taken from www.zoo.ru in russian version. Interesting that in english version they publish another, out of date email address you trying to use.
Thanks, someone else recommended that address too. It's strange that the Russian and English sites have different email addresses. Hopefully this one will work!
Hello, zoo-goers. Does anyone, have pictures on the mega-project for St.Petrsburg zoo in Yuntolovo, please?. Frederic [email protected]
Anyone know if the zoo is planning on keeping both Cinta and her female calf for long term? I really feel that it was a poor decision that she was sent alongside her brothers to the same zoo. What is to prevent inbreeding? which has already happened as her calf's father must be related to Cinta in some way. Or is that not a concern at all?
One of the bulls, Horas, was transferred to Kiev zoo this year. The elephant house is suited for 5 elephants, so now there is a place for two more unrelated females. But I'm doubt that Rostov zoo is planning to acquire them.
An update on Rostov Zoo (not just elephants)? Also @Elephas Maximus: it would be nice to have a review on THE zoo in Yekaterinburg.

The female pygmy hippo from Kaunas zoo that was originally planned for Kaliningrad, will be transferred to Rostov zoo to be mated with a 41-year-old male. Hope he would live up to this day, and won't be incinerated when his life ends.

Last night someone tried to steal one of above-mentioned cougars, the animal was taken out of exhibit (presumably being sedated?) and found later at zoo grounds, tied to the pole and sleeping. Due to zoo's large size combined with poor security and poverty, it's not the 1st animal theft: About 2000: attempt to steal a crowned crane 14.09.2005: 5-months old hand-raised female common marmoset was stolen from monkey house by a boy,15 and seized & returned 2 months later after the thief put it up for sale. 4.01.2007: young Siamese crocodile & 2 red-eared sliders were stolen from reptile house (not found) 11.02.2007: a man was caught in reptile house running away with a large radiated tortoise and having dropped a spur-thighed tortoise (probably he also has stolen the prevoius reptiles). The unlucky bastard harmed his leg while breaking through window and cases of animals killed by visitors: Summer 1998: (last?) flamingo killed from a slingshot November 2006: young llama was found butchered (probably by homeless people) 10.11.2008: 2 boys, 12 with a girl, 11 (all are the filthy offspring of drunk parents) sneaked into kangaroo exhibit, trapped red-necked walabies in their shelter one by one and beaten them with sticks, killing young female in the process (as well as its newborn baby after inspecting the pouch). The next day they killed 3 seagulls and injured 3 other ones (which died later). Birds couldn't fly away because of clipped wings. Finally the damn kids were caught by security guard while throwing bottles at pelican. Naturally, they got off the hook (though flogging them until blood flows could be nice!) and all responsibility was laid on their parents. 12.08.2010: 6 white-tailed sea eagles were shot at night. Security guards heard nothing (2 guards for 90-hectare zoo is NOT enough).
