We currently have one african and one asian elephant in an outdated exhibit. We are nearing completion of a major new elephant exhibit that will expand the zoo by 7 acres. (It is called Expedition Tanzania and there is a thread devoted to it in the Reid Park Zoo forums). The asian elephant will be shipped out in this crate to the San Diego Zoo. Our african elephant will be transported in either this crate or one just like it from the current exhibit to the new one. A breeding herd of african elephants from the San Diego Safari Park will be shipped out here to join our single african in the new exhibit. Apparently the Safari Park just positioned several crates at their exhibit to start preparing their elephants for the move.
