      Cute is definitely the word!
      Is that an adult?

Amazing animals :) Our pair in Cincinnati recently gave birth a few months back. There certainly isn't much that is cuter than a baby Screaming Hairy Armadillo.

Great shot! Only seen this species once, and only after several visits to the collection in question (The Palms at Stapeley). It is the owner of one of my all-time favourite animal common names, though!

      Is he fully grown?

I have to agree with you there :p

I know they are less than a year old - I am thinking maybe eight months??? They will grow a little more, but not much. Their appearance should not change too much from how they look now.

He seems pretty mellow, for a screaming armadillo.

Do they scream only when distressed?
    • Arizona Docent
Yes. When we first got them and they had not been handled a lot yet, I actually did hear one scream when I held it up too long. (Which I found out afterwards from our animal supervisor I was not supposed to do). But now that they are more used to being handled, they really don't scream. They are very cute, though, and very popular with visitors. We have an open top acrylic hexagon about two feet tall that we put them in and let people reach inside to touch them.
