Yesterday, 4 year old bull Shanti from Hannover moved to Hamburg.
There he should live together with Shahrukh. After the transfer of Hussein to belgium, and Thisiam from kattowicz to Hamburg, the two young bull are going to transfer to kattowicz.

Boten (6 born in Ramat Gan) and Jumanee (4 born in Sosto) from Sosto where transfered to Hodenhagen/Ger in March. On wednesday Boten were send to La Fleché together with BouBou (6 born in Hodenhagen).

In a few years Jumanee should breed with Nelly (2 born in Hodenhagen) in Hodenhagen.

The calf is a male, definitely.
On the photo, the other elephant is also not Lai Sinh. It should be Kandy.

Since Boten and Jumaane have been transferred, and Kwanza, Buba, and Jack brought in, I guess that means Kwanza and Jack were recommended for breeding?

Male elephant HUSSEIN has died just before he would be transported from Hamburg Hagenbeck to Belgium (Dierenpark Planckendael). He reached the age of 40 and is the father of 14 calves.

The death of Hussein is tragic... Who will be the bull going to Plackendael then? :(

    Too soon to decide really

A great shame for both collections and the EEP as a whole with there being precious few mature bulls within the program

Was allready mentioned in the Emmen thread. The zoo has since announced that she had internal bleeding in her womb and the calf died because his mother didn't produce enough milk. On top of that, while weakened his mother fell on top of him.

    Move.

Chester's Asian Elephant bull, 'Upali' left today for Dublin. He has sired four calves at Chester and his replacement will be a bull from Seville later in the year. So at present Chester have a young male 'Nayan' (Offspring of 'Upali') and six females, Thi, Maya, Jangolie, Sithami, Sundara and Jamilah.

Also Dublin's young bull should move to Antwerp soon (Or he has?) and then in time to Denver. ;)

I wish Upali well at his new home at Dublin Zoo. Jordon, you state that Upali sired four calves during his time at Chester, I could only think of three,i.e. Raman, unfortunately deceased,Nayan and Jamila. I checked with the elephant data base and as well as the three mentioned they also list Upali as being the father of Sundara, who Sithami gave birth to in 2004 when only 6 years old herself, wasn't it a case of Chang being Sundara's father?

I took the information from the Zoo's Facebook page. I believe some list 'Upali' as the father of Sundara however, I know for a fact that it was Chang (Chester's old bull) who was indeed the father of Sundara. So I think it was the Zoo's mistake for putting four instead of four.
