It appears that there are a number of expansive, excellent exhibits for many African and North American animals at this zoo, but then also a series of pedestrian-looking cages on the grounds. Overall I've heard good things and I'm excited to visit this summer!
Yes I really wish they would redo this row of small mammal cages. The rest of the zoo is outstanding and these are a bit of an eyesore. (Plus they house two of my favorites - sand cats and wildcats - but they are not conducive to photography). At least I heard (from my cousin's last visit) that they finally moved the serval out of here and into a larger exhibit in Eagle Canyon. (To keep a serval-sized animal in one of these was inhumane).
I would say for such a sensitive species this enclosure is less the sub optimal. There is hardly any space to hide nor any place to dig a burrow ... Breeding-wise it is a non-starter.
