Crocodile exhibits at Protivin Crocodile Zoo, 26/05/10

Currently on show are: American Alligator Chinese Alligator Broad-fronted Caiman Black Caiman American Crocodile Nile Crocodile Slender-snouted Crocodile Siamese Crocodile Philippine Crocodile Mugger Crocodile Saltwater Crocodile Cuban Crocodile False Gharial NOTE: Strictly speaking, you're not allowed to take photos at all at this zoo. However, the first thing we were greeted with was a member of staff taking flash photos with a large camera of a disagreement between two Mugger Crocs, so they clearly have no concerns about the animals' response to being photo'd. Given that, as a open-to-the-public collection, there is no question of prvacy or secrecy, the rule seems to smack of nothing more than officiousness. The contents of the building are public, and the rule does not seem to exist for the animals' benefit. So I discreetly disregarded it. ;)

@Maguari: With 13 out of the world's 23 species there is certainly an impressive collection at this zoo. However, are many of the enclosures like the ones in all of your photos? Rudimentary, concrete pools that seem awfully small for their inhabitants.

They are all pretty much identical, yes. The owners have at least 7 more species of croc at their offshow breeding farm, so these really just are holding for surplus.

Re: 23 species, you should have been in the chatroom half an hour ago for that debate! :D

Protivin Crocodile Zoo is just keeping 21 species ( missed are Indian Gharials and Orinoco crocodiles) - not all of them are just on display.
The zoo will get an import of Gharials by Madras Crocodile Bank in 2010 or early 2011, the export permits are still done.

The owner Miroslav Prochazka is a member of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group and supporting several in-situ crocodilian conservation projects.

Protivin Crocodile Zoo is breeding PURE Cuban crocodiles and Siamese crocodiles and participating in the Cuban Crocodile ESB, which is managed by Paington Zoo, UK
