Is there any new bull in this 'group' yet?

This picture doesn't look too dissimilar from the one I took at Werribee Open Range Zoo in Victoria, Australia:

The only difference is the giraffe I took my picture of is a hybrid.

No, I'm afraid, still only the two females (the other of which is the rather odd-looking one with a lumpy head following injury when young whose name escapes me).

Giraffes are ludricrously photogenic. I've taken hundreds of shots of them in the past but still end up taking new ones almost every time I can get close. Beautiful animals.

With Giraffe in many cases hybrids and purebreds are very difficult to differentiate by coat pattern- even the distinctive 'network' pattern of the Reticulated can appear in crossbreds too. Whipsnade's are pure though(AFAIK).

Ina or Nia? She came from Dvur Kralov (or other Czech Zoo) I believe. She has been there at least two years, while there's been no new bull for a similar period.

Whipsnade started this group by importing 2.3 and its slowly gone downhill since. There have been a number of births but mostly males- possibly the only female born has been 'Savanah' who herself has produced male calves also. All the originals are dead now and its a faltering group really.

Ina sounds good. I think it did begin with an 'I'.

(Incidentally, wasn't Nia the name of a hybrid specimen at Chester some years back? Or am I imagining that?)

I was pleased when they went into pure Reticulateds instead of Rothschilds like everywhere else. At that time nowhere else in UK had them. But its been depressing watching the group shrinking the way it has, instead of enlarging.

ISIS lists 1:2 at Whipsnade currently?
