I have only been once in the past year and I saw one (VERY BREIFLY). You must just be unlucky in not seeing them although you can't get a brilliant view form across the canal anyway.
As far as I know they are staying in that enclosure for the time being. If you want a good look at giant anteaters, Cotswold's pair are usually active.
Those who joined us on the last walk-and-talk would have seen both anteaters 'up close and personal'. They're still intended to go into the paddock opposite the spectacled bears, but that won't happen untill late this, or early next year.
We usually get round there in the afternoon.do you think they are out more in the mornings?Anybody know?
The female in particular is supposed to be more active late afternoon, although I've yet to see either of them outside myself
I saw the Giant anteater for the first time outside today. It was quite active, walking around the perimeter of the enclosure...
Anteater I saw one today!!!!at last.It put on a good performance for me right by the fence.Maybe next time i will see 2.
I have just got back from the zoo - I asked a keeper what has happened to the kangaroos. She told me that they've gone to a different zoo, and that the anteaters will be moved into the former kangaroo enclosure soon. (Apparently, the reason that the kangaroos were moved is that Chester Zoo wants to concentrate on species that are endangered - which the kangaroos, presumeably, aren't.) Naomi
Interesting news! Has there been any developments with the old warty pig enclosure (cattle house one) now that the group has moved on?
The Kangaroo's were sent to Exmoor Zoo,as they don't fit with the zoo's collection plan or in to any of the planned zones!! The Warty Pig enclosure in the old cattle house,is in the process of been covered in sand ready for a new arrival!!!
Oh, c'mon, all the suidae are exciting, just think of all the things you can do with them. Burgers, sausages...
