      Now I can see where the $4.4 million (Australian dollars) went...on landscaping! Naturally since Taronga and Melbourne opened seal/penguin/pelican complexes within years of each other they also decided to both debut walk-through lemur exhibits at almost the exact same time.

      Let's not forget Asian precincts with elephants as well.

      And I think a large portion of the price tag would have gone into knocking down the existing grottoes that were on the site. That seems to be one of the main costs that zoos take into account when redeveloping aging structures.

      This photo also shows they have retained the existing moats of the old ape enclosures, which apart from being a cost saving, I think its also a nice gesture in preserving a small part of the history of the site.
