      No - Red-necked Ostrich is a subspecies of Ostrich - Struthio camelus camelus - from northern Africa. And I think Gigit is referring to the behaviour, not the species!

      Zoo Barbary Lions and white tigers are dubious, but both did have true wild origins or a true wild 'version' so neither name represents a 'captive made' taxon. And neither are birds, either... ;)

      I regret using the word 'taxon' now, as the white tiger has never been a taxon - but it has been a naturally-occurring phenomenon (at least once, anyway).

      Don't make barbarys and white tigers the same. One of these animals is still almost pure, the other one a theme-park-monster ;)

      I used to have a herd of these at home, and this sound used to wake me up every morning......was really eerie the first time!:D
