I am reading Menagerie Manor by Gerald Durrell. He mentions a lizard called a 'Guiana dragon'. I cannot find reference to such a species online. Does anyone know what else it is known as?

The accompanying drawing in my copy of Menagerie Manor shows a Northern caiman lizard.

yes it is a caiman lizard (Dracaena guianensis) -- the scientific name actually translates as "dragon from Guiana".
