Hi, today I took my sister in law out for shopping... and I was headed on my way back to the house because I had my one year old stay at home with dad, but I stopped at Burger King on my way. While I was ordering on the drivethru I couldn't help but notice a bird stuck on a white fence... the thing that caught my attention the most was that they was kind of a splatter of blood on the fence, it has to be his! I rushed the BK people I could not leave that our bird stuck there. .. I get my food and run to the fence. ... it was so sad, the bird in his intent to fly off that fence had slipped down getting his leg stuck almost at the bottom of the fence. I immediately grabbed a shirt and cuddled him up and immobilized him, he was so tired that he just laid there... I observed the leg and it was turned up. This fence was too little apart, maybe 1/2mm. The flesh wasn't there anymore, all there was bone and I could barely see his feet in the other side. I tried getting things through the fence and try to open it a little to free his leg but that thing wouldn't move. Here comes the sad part.... after speaking calmly to the bird, I was covered in tears as I could imagine his pain...I tried to lift his bone through the opening all the way to the top. but this was a 6ft tall fence. I couldn't do it. It didn't even move a cm it just was too tight! I thought of knoking the house owners door, but I could not let go of that poor bird because he would just flock there. Nobody was around to help... so I apologised to this bird and told him what I had to do. .. I had to amputate this leg. I had just bought a pair of scissors for clipping hair. ... and had it cut. I knew it was going to be painful but I had not much choice, I kept him wrapped in the shirt as his beak was very sharp keeping pressure on that leg and took him home to stop the bleeding and clean the wound. I plugged oxygenated water on the leg to clean in our and placed a cotton with antibiotic ointment. Then the bird got desperate and flew off. I saw him fly to a bush falling to stand, them he got back up standing on one leg now. I tried to catch him again to take him to check the leg and take him to a vet or something but he disappeared. ... It is 2am and I can't sleep still thinking of how that bird may be! Remembering that peace of leg left at the fence outside BK.
.. I literally cried like crazy. .. I am an animal lover! I can't even kill a fish to eat it because I will cry and not do it! I am impacted greatly by this. ... I need to know if I did the right thing! !! Please HELP!!!
