And again some wanna-be experts want us make believe zoos are bad : 11 Things You Should Know Before Planning Your Next Trip To The Zoo
It is impossible to completely recreate an animal's natural environment. I do believe most zoos do the best they can with the resources they have. I also think the article misses the point about zoo animals serving as ambassadors for their species. One point they made that I do find unpalatable is separation of social animals that have bonded. It seems like AI could be used more often but I know with some it isn't practical.
Another ridiculous story. "Some zoos" smell bad. "Some zoos" have steep hills and you'll get tired. "Some zoos" are inconvenient to get to on public transportation. These articles put forward so many assumptions of what ought to be and then find examples where their goal has not been met. It's just a shame editors publish this nonsense
Well of course some zoos are gonna smell bad. Kind of difficult to get a bunch of wild animals of many species into one place and have the place smell good. Anyway, yeah, the "some zoos" stuff is ridiculous. Of course some zoos have problems. I don't think it's really fair to discount the idea of zoos altogether just because there are bad zoos.
