Amazona oratrix, Parrot aviaries, Paignton, 5th October 2014.

You're definitely talking my language gentle lemur - I love Double Yellow-heads. It is interesting how A. oratrix still does not seem to be universally accepted.

P.S. How have I missed these photos over the last couple of days?!

I was wondering why you hadn't commented ;) but I've noticed that sometimes new photos seem to escape from the Today's Photos list.
I think that on balance I prefer the yellow-shouldered amazons, but it's a close call.

Double-yellow headed for me too. Like that butter-yellow head and their bulky shape.:)

I have to confess I have never viewed "Today's Photos" or the new posts! I rely on clicking on the UK Gallery and, if no new comments are recorded, sometimes checking my favourite zoos' galleries - I slipped up by not checking Paignton's until I saw your Chattering Lory photo at the top of the UK Forum page. I then rushed to the Paignton gallery. I suppose my method is not the best.

I am a big lover of Double Yellow-headed Amazons - I'd be in trouble with my own, Myfanwy, if I were not!

I was very amused by this pair yesterday. The hen (I presume) came out of one of the boxes and flew near to the front of cage, after a climb up the wire she started to say 'Hello' looking back towards the cock (the bird in this photo). He eventually replied 'Hello', then they had a fairly long conversation, using just that one word.
In the interests of accuracy, I must record that the bird I thought to be female did most of the talking, but she also did it rather better as she could vary both her pitch and the stress on the syllables. I confess that I and two other visitors could not help joining in eventually :)

My favourite parrots at the zoo, and most visitors love talking psittacines - the individual animal that draws the biggest crowds at Sewerby is Eckie the eloquent Eclectus.

Well that has made my day - I think that " Eckie the eloquent Eclectus " has to be THE children`s book title for all mini ( and not so mini ) zoo chatters this Christmas ( and I wouldn`t say no to a copy if anyone feels moved to write/publish it !! )
      :D

I'm pleased I've made your day - I don't think I have had that effect on anybody before! Perhaps there could be the potential for a book describing his adventures, mmmmm. With apologies to gentle lemur as I have no desire to highjack his wonderful photograph and thread, here is a little picture of the bird in question (there are more on the Sewerby Gallery):-
