Found just some notes I made during the time ISIS was still open acces. They are about the captive population of the St. vincent amazon and must be from about 2005 - 2010 ( ? ). ISIS gave the following list : Hayle 2-2-0 Houston 1-4-0 Intlavsoc 2-2-0 New Age 15-14-0 ( 2 hatched during the last 6 months ) NY Bronx 0-2-0 Toronto 0-1-0 Intlavsoc seems to be the Int. L'Aviculturists Society in Memphis ( anybody some information about this Society ??? ) New Age seems to be Life Fellowship Bird Sanctuary. Any ZooChatters with more info about the North American birds at the moment ( nothing known to me about the Toronto bird, does Bronx still have 2 females and how about Houston - if I remember right they had at least a breeding result some years ago ? ) ? In Europe Zootierliste sais Loro Parque has the species maybe and at Hayle ( Paradise Park ) only a single bird was kept in 2013. Not mentioned on Zootierliste and on ISIS is the group kept at the German collection of ACTP. Any information about the current population would be very welcome !
Not sure Bronx keeps them anymore. At least, not on-show. Wouldn't be surprised if any were off-show although I read elsewhere on ZooChat that at least the exhibited female was sent to another zoo. Never saw Bronx's animals unfortunately. ~Thylo
Thanks all sofar ! Any information about the group at Houston and anybody with information about the Toronto-bird ?
I suggest you ask on the Toronto forum, as the Canadians rarely seem to venture out of the North American fora and probably won't see this.
Just checked some old Int. Zooyear books to find out about the status of the Jersey-birds. At Jersey they were kept between 1975 and 1985. In 1985 only one male was left and either died that year or was send to another collection or back to St. Vincent (?). Made a small list of the captive population in 1980 and 1985 : Hayle : 1980 1-1 1985 1-1 Houston 1980 3-2 ( from which 1-0 was captive-bred ) 1985 none Jersey 1980 1-4 1985 1-0 New York Bronx 1980 1-0 1985 2-3 Seffner ( Life Fellowship ) 1980 none 1985 5-7 ( from which 0-3 cptive-bred ) Walsrode didn't provide info about their birds but seems to have had during 1985 2-2-1
Article about the Houston breeding 2008 : http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2008/07/27/endangered-parrots-produce-thi/
Came accros this very intresting article : ACTP - Association for the Conservation of Threatened Parrots
Information about the numbers of St. Vincent Amazon kept in Vogelpark Walsrode in the 90s: 1992: 2.1.0 1993: 5.1.0 1994: 4.0.0 1995: 3.0.0 1996: 2.0.0 1997: 2.0.0 1998: 2.0.0 1999: 2.0.0 2000: 2.0.0
Thanks for this list Tomek. Made myself a list of Walsrodes St. Vincent amazons during the 1980-ties : 1981 2-2-1 1982 No data 1983 1-4 1984 No data 1985 No data 1986 3-3-5 ( of which 1-1-5 were captive-bred ) 1987 5-5 ( of which 2-3 were captive bred ) 1988 1-3 1989 2-2
Jersey indeed still has this species and they also used to have a St. Vincent Amazon parrot till 1985.
Toronto Zoo - a long-time keeper in the Americas Pavilion remembers having one St Vincent Amazon there some time ago that was shipped out for breeding. He does not remember where or the year but thinks it was female. The bird curator retired last year and I don't know anyone who would check the records for me.
