Hi all, just wondering if I am missing anything significant or worth a visit in Israel zoo wise and specifically exhibit or primate wise. I plan on visiting the Ramat Gan Safari Park and the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo.

Looking through zoochat gallery I am thinking that Ben Shemen Forest Monkey Park may be worth a visit?

I've been to just about every zoo in Israel (having lived in their next-door neighbor, Jordan, for three years) and can say the Biblical Zoo is worth a visit. Ramat Gan is a combination zoo/safari park with a drive-through lion enclosure, but the whole place is actually pretty crappy. I saw locals feeding animals potato chips and a guy blow smoke out of a cigarette into an eland's face. However white rhinos and hippos roam the whole drive-though section freely and you can get pretty close to those.

I do not know much about Israelian zoos, but thanks to AlexKant ZootierlisteHomepage is always quite up-to-date regarding Israeli zoos.

I would expect that they would have some great examples of Persian fallow deer. I, myself would love a trip to Israel just to study their restoration project on this species (It's on my bucket list). Typical of the Israelis, they don't muck around, & put 110% effort into everything they do. As a result we are seeing some great insights into the dispersal of this species ( which may also be relative to a couple of other species in different regions) as once again the messo's start to occupy their once indigenous range. It really is a success & politics aside, it's one of the few good news stories from this part of the world lately. May their success continue.

That's interesting and will definatley look into it. My partner and I are currently in Melbourne airport and our flight is delayed. Fingers crossed we make our connections!

We have decided that at some point in our time in Israel that we will each weave it into a conversation and the challenge is to make it seamless and not seem contrived! Yes we are very bored but are serious about thus challenge!

I will endeavour to get some pics of the deer if possible.
