What animals (other than pandas) are the most popular in zoos and earn the zoo profit. What animals do you think are not profitable?
Most popular for general public: tiger, elephant, giraffe, lion, ape, zebra, hippo, monkey (with long tail), big parrot, bear, eagle/vulture, snake (every type, just snake, but particularly bigger and more colourfull one), large hornbill, rhino, crocodile, leopard/jaguar, sea lion, kangaroo, koala, lemur, dolphin, shark - all these would attract huge mass of visitors Zoo animals that are not so popular or if kept just those in a zoo, without some of the above-mentioned animals, would not attract as much as visitors as zoos having some or most of the above-mentioned zoo animals. Examples for such, I would call them ''gray zoo animals'' are mostly native animals from Europe and North America (but also from other parts of the world), like deers, roe deer, wolfs, jackals, European wild cat/oncila/ocelot, brown bears, not very colourfull snakes, not very colourfull birds, rodents, red-necked wallaby, liamas, caprines, ostrich. Ok this just like my opinion. For zoochatters, certantly okapis, black rhinos, bonobos, superb bird of paradise (kept at San Diego zoo) or samar cobra would attract much attention )
I doubt there are any animals that make a profit for a zoo. Pandas are definitely shown to cause a major loss to zoos.
I agree completely. All animals cost money to care for, and unfortunately the most popular species of animals in zoos and captivity are often the most expensive and hardest to care for because they require space to be kept, specialized diets, exhibits that represent their natural habitat or stimulus and experienced people who know what they're doing to care for them. Keep in mind that most of the money that zoos and aquariums makes goes directly back into running the place.
Are you sure about that!!If you have a link that proves what you have said I would love to see it,as what you have said is very different to what I have heard off the record from a few sources at Edinburgh!!
Did you get whiplash from that U-turn? Also, specifying they weren't a *major* loss in the first year when there have been several years following rather comes across as a tacit acknowledgement that the losses have only increased
Brilliant 1 year they weren't a complete loss, which means that they have been for all the REST!!Hence why Edinburgh keep making such a big deal about her possibly been pregnant each year in the hope that she is and visitors, numbers go up and as a result they make a profit from them just once!!! Now any chance you are going to provide a link proving what you first said before your great U-TURN!!!!!
It does indeed and both places had another common factor in the fact that a certain Mr West was at the collections!!!
