YWP have announced that the new lion cubs have been reunited with their Mum. The reintroduction seems to have gone well so far. Full details on their website.

Does anyone know when they'll actually go on show and not just be viewable via a screen?

Planning permission has been granted for a new 1.6 hectares enclosure including two animal houses and toilet block. There has been no mention of what species will be housed other than it will be a new species to the park. The enclosure will be known as the Cheddar Reserve.

I think this is for the cheetah enclosures that have already been constructed. It seems the permission for construction has only recently been officially granted.

Why did they build it then if it wasn’t granted?

There is such a thing as retrospective planning permission. Like Green_mamba says they were clearly confident the local authorities would grant the permission, a risky one as if they did not they could have ordered them to demolish the construction!

Were Yorkshire rumoured to be getting gorillas at some point? Is that still on the cards?

At the time the application was submitted, Cheetah were a new species to the park.

They applied to build an enclosure called GOLF which people believe refers to gorillas (im not sure if it was confirmed but looking at the enclosure plans it is almost certainly for gorillas). The application is still up but I don't think it has been approved yet or any building work has started.

That’s very interesting as I’ve heard rumours of a UK collection, a long-term holder of the species, planning to go out of gorillas. I don’t know where.

someone I know who regularly visits the Aspinall parks suggested gorillas may be next to go after elephants. they couldn't offer any evidence for their info though

Pure speculation but could it be Twycross? I know having four great ape species is a big selling point for them, but times have changed and with limited funds, maybe they'd consider giving one up so they can focus on better facilities for the other three?
